Connections/Emotions/Elements
WOOD: Tree reaching to the sky with stability, rooted, flexible, bending, strength, gives new life with seeds just like a person. If out of order or not in balance: not well rooted, pushed over easily, falls over, feels disconnected with the earth, easily confused, dizzy. Symptoms that could develop is: stultification (förlöjligande) of emotion and thought, feelings of smothering, nightmare of being trapped, abdominal pain, cramping, weak and/or stiff limbs, spinal problems or the person is not/cannot receive enough nutrition’s and become deficient. Emotion connected to the wood element is anger; this person might express too much anger and might “explode” or lack the feeling of anger entirely. Irritation without reason, always wanting to pick a fight and on edge with other, are common symptoms when there is an imbalance of the wood element. The liver and gallbladder can be harmed if there is an imbalance in this element.
FIRE: Warmth, light, energy, moving, full of spark, vitality, lively, excitement about life and colorful the sun just as much as the human being in balance. It can be both too much energy in this element and also too little. This person can be cold physically and emotionally, experience parched (förtorka/sveda) and arid in the mind, spirit & body (lack vitality), hot painful joints, lack of emotional warmth and receptivity to others and sexual coldness. Emotion connected to the fire element is Joy and Happiness (and the opposite sadness). The excess of joy is just as harmful as the lack of it, so balance is needed. The desire for permanent joy and happiness is impossible goal, there has to be sadness for there to be happiness. Organs associated to the fire element are the heart and small intestines.
EARTH: It is the ground beneath our feet, the connection we have with the world in which we live and the entire universe. We are nourished from the earth, we get life and we get support. Fertility is associated with the earth element. Both the earth and the human beings are (when balanced) grounded, stable, balanced, have a centre, order & harmony is with this element and both the earth element and the human being follows certain cycles through life. If there is an imbalance in the earth element the person might lose the connection to any one of the cycles we are living after. Symptoms such as nervousness, instability, flightiness, loss of balance, feeling unearthed, disconnected, alone, egocentric, not feeling secure in one´s self and depending on other can show when there is an imbalance in the earth element. The emotion associated to this element is sympathy/compassion. Both lack and excess of this emotion can be harmful. Are you giving sympathy constantly or never, or are you obsessively looking for sympathy from other?! Any craving can be a sign of imbalance in the earth element. Organs connected to the earth element is stomach and spleen, so any excess emotions lack of emotions mention above can be a sign of imbalance.
METAL: is minerals and salt that the earth and human beings are made off and it is these that make growth possible so that we can grow and foods for us to eat. They are used for structure, substance, fuel, strength and beauty (ädelsten). Metal is needed for communication; imagine a life without TV, mobile phones and internet. Metal conducts electricity, which is needed in the universe and in the human being. Symptoms such as lack of emotional strength, dissention (oenighet) and rebellion can develop when there is an imbalance in the metal element. Emotion connected is grief, so if there is too much grief or none at all there might be an imbalance. Organs associated to the element and emotions are the lungs and large intestines, so this is where there can be issues or where issues can develop.
WATER: it has force, power, be supportive, it can provide a base of travel, it has rhythm & a cycle, serene (rofylld), violent and it makes life possible and it makes life possible inside us. It is connected to all fluids and all streams/flow in the body. Symptoms such as lack of flow in thought process and emotions, feeling and fear of inundation (flöde/översvämning) and being overwhelmed (överväldiga/begravd) by things. The emotion connected to the water element is fear, so all sorts of phobias fall into this category of fear. But it does not have to be extreme symptoms, less extreme are a general felling (which you can’t put your finger on) of dread (a feeling of evil to come), a constant feeling of anxiety about life and feeling of sinking into dispair. Fear can be a sign of holding on and not letting go instead of showing a flow in life. The organs connected to this element are kidneys and bladder.
